Louie. RaLpH has a career span of over 30 years and around 10 assignments with some of the world’s iconic media brands like MTV, ESPN STAR Sports, Hotmail, MSN, National Geographic Channel. Before starting out on his journey as an Entrepreneur and a Business Development Consultant in 2014, he was the Ad Sales Revenue Head of Star India’s English Cluster for 4 years. Star’s English Cluster was an enviable bouquet of around 15 channels including Star Movies, Star World, National Geographic, Fox Traveller and their HD variants.
At Star, he was able to steer the business over his tenure to deliver a CAGR of around 25% while the overall Ad revenue pie was growing at just 9% in the corresponding period. He led a team of over 100 professionals and changed the approach to monetization and revenue maximization through deft packaging, pricing, bundling and positioning pitches as solutions to the needs and challenges of Brands.
This resulted in exponential Ad revenue growth of key products of the English portfolio like The Oscars, Premiers on Star Movies, starting with ‘Avatar’ and monetization of the 1 pm time- band; ‘Koffee With Karan’ on STAR World & the Big ticket series like MasterChef Australia, Big Bang Theory, Modern Family to name a few; the Mega tentpoles on NGC like ‘Mission Army’, Super Cars & ‘Twist Of Taste’ on Fox Traveller. He also changed the template and formula for Advertiser Funded Programming (AFPs) leading to significant contribution to the Cluster’s top-line from properties like ‘The ‘Dewarist’ with Dewars & ‘Teachers Achievement Awards’ on Star World, Nissan X-Trail’s ‘X-treme Trail’ on NGC to name a few.
Prior to STAR, he led the business as C.O.O. at Optimystix a well-known Television Production house and turned around the business which was struggling with growing losses on various fronts. He re-engineered the business, set Production control and monitoring systems, along with pipeline management discipline and format development rigor. This resulted in 150% revenue growth, cost control and significant bottomline growth (300%) over his tenure.
Prior to Optimystix, he had a very interesting 21/2-year stint in the US setting up an Indian Diaspora targeted 24-hour Television Channel for TV18 Group and building a television studio on the 62nd floor of the Empire State Building. Kevin is a graduate from the National Institute of Event Management, where College outreach programs provided the opportunity to get hands on experience with major event and media organisations like Endemol and Zee TV.
He started his career in 2005 as Team Leader, and Customer Executive, at Ventura, a UK based BPO that offers customer service and publishing solutions to a large array of international clients. Here he gained immense experience learning and training in communication and the nuances of client relationships as he handled offshore clients like Next (A mega chain of superstores across UK).
Between the years 2006 – 2008, he worked as Event Coordinator and Media Relations Sr Executive, Batti Bandh, an NGO that promotes awareness for environmental concerns. His responsibilities included most impoirtantly liaising with policy makers and creating promotional campaign opportunities with media houses. This included designing and coordinating events countrywide, in association with large corporate partners like Reliance Energy, Pidilite, BCCI, CNN IBN, MSEB, Essar, Live Earth, Vodafone and WWF.
As Business Development Manager, Khopcha Entertainment, Kevin created oppportunites with clients ranging from IIM-A, Cipla Pharmaceuticals, Red Events, Kataria Automobiles, Maruti Suzuki, Riot Apparels, DNA, Divya Bhaskar,Tuborg and others.
